Founder members of both the Football League and the Premier League, Everton were formed in 1878 and have played a record 120 seasons in Top Flight. Champions of England in the two seasons prior to the two world wars, they thus held on to their crown during the war years when professional football was in suspension. Everton hold the privilege of winning the championship in the season of return to Top Flight, a record shared with Liverpool and Tottenham.


When 2024-25 kicks off, Everton will have competed at the top level for seventy-one consecutive seasons. Trophies have however been hard to come by in recent years, with the F.A. Cup win in 1994-95 the last honour, aside from a runners-up position in the same competition in 2008-09. The Toffees were deducted eight points in 2023-24 for financial irregularities and further penalty during post-season could result in commencing the next season in the red in terms of points.
